Challenges For Education IT

The financial pressures facing many education bodies mean IT refresh strategies are often put on hold, or are executed with sub-standard assets to keep costs to a minimum. This can often result in problems being pushed further down the line, where they can become even bigger in the future. These can include (and are not necessarily limited to):

Legacy System

Old, slow devices can’t support many of the latest innovations that students and teachers need, which can be time-consuming and frustrating for both types of users

Increased long-term costs

Older systems that are no longer fit for purpose, and replacements that are procured on the cheap, are more likely to fail and generate larger repair and/or replacement bills in years to come

Security Concerns

Legacy technology is less likely to be protected against new and emerging cyber threats, and often can’t be patched or updated in a suitable manner. This can put the functionality of devices, and more importantly sensitive education and student data, at serious risk.

Poorer User Experiences

All of the above lead to serious inefficiencies, damage the ability of students to achieve the outcomes they aspire to, and lead further education students to favour other institutions instead
