SCC has been a long-standing partner of Chiltern Railways so when a need to modernise their network infrastructure was identified, SCC were trusted with this vital transformation project. The company recognised the need to enhance its network infrastructure to meet the demands of its expanding business operations and to ensure seamless connectivity for internal and customer facing systems.
Chiltern Railways current technology was at the end of its usable life and offered them limited capability to provide the seamless integrated end user experience they wanted to deliver to customers. They needed a partner to help them efficiently deliver and manage LAN, WAN, CCTV and Wi-Fi.
To address this challenge, Chiltern Railways partnered with SCC and Cisco to design, implement, and optimise a state-of-the-art Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solution which used Cisco Meraki technology. This enabled the efficient operation and delivery of critical IT assets and customer facing systems.
The primary objectives included:
Network Modernisation: Replace the outdated network infrastructure with a cutting-edge SD-WAN solution, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.
Seamless Integration: Integrate the new SD-WAN seamlessly with Chiltern Railways' existing systems and applications.
Optimised Performance: Enhance network performance to support customer-facing systems, ticketing services, and internal operations.
In April 2023, SCC delivered the Cisco Meraki equipment and initiated the installation process. The SCC team worked on-site with Chiltern Railways' IT personnel to install and configure the SD-WAN solution. This collaborative approach ensured a smooth transition from the legacy network to the new SD-WAN, minimising disruption to daily operations.
Throughout the project, SCC maintained a strong partnership with Cisco, to leverage their expertise and ensure that the design and implementation of the SD-WAN solution were validated, aligned with best practices and delivered the highest value to Chiltern Railways.
The SD-WAN solution transformed Chiltern’s network infrastructure, enabling the operation and delivery of crucial IT assets and customer-facing systems. Using Cisco Meraki, they are now able to manage LAN, WAN, CCTV, Wi-Fi through one user intuitive single portal supporting simple firmware updates with a shorter resolution time.
