As part of a major change programme, the Post Office Limited (POL) were moving from their incumbent suppliers on premise data centre in Belfast to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. This was a vital transformation designed to re-host Horizon, their primary IT system for the POL branch network.
The POL needed a partner to provide IT Professional Services for application development and operational expertise. The partner not only needed to demonstrate Professional Services expertise through AWS accreditations but also provide the ability for POL to procure services in an agile and proactive manner.
SCC were selected as the chosen partner to work closely with the existing POL internal team, to take-on existing services and deliver against their transformational journey. As part of this, SCC deliver cloud services to the POL utilising multiple vendors to provide AWS security services.
By SCC providing a consortium approach to this service using AWS and our AWS Partner Community, SCC provide a flexible resource capability that can stand up multiple full stack agile delivery teams at any one time. We enabled a choice of resource for POL to deliver the transformation based on an assessed approach taking in consideration of risk, complexity, and scale alongside the blended approach to offshoring resources which has ensured the works programmes are delivered cost effectively. SCC act as a single point of contact to bring together the numerous vendors required to deliver this service, taking an agile approach to the mobilisation of any additional vendors required.
The service delivered to POL focussed upon:
On premise and AWS Application Support: A fully Managed Service supporting POL’s line of business applications and services.
Infrastructure support: 24x7x365 operations, supporting infrastructure, interfaces and processes within POL’s AWS environment, proactive reporting and recommendations and best practice changes.
On demand DevOps Services: On demand request for changes to existing Services, the provision of additional Services, including consultancy and Professional Services, full cycle 24x7 on demand DevOps Support Services to provision, run, and optimise the POL’s infrastructures in the AWS Cloud.
SCC provide the Managed Service support for the AWS application infrastructure and will extend this model as the adoption of applications grow within POL.
