Energy and Utilities Reimagined: Connecting your Customers, People and Data for Secure Scalable Growth
Cloud solutions can significantly enhance the agility, flexibility and ability of companies in the energy and utilities sector to meet evolving customer expectations. Despite clear benefits such as faster response times, increased competitiveness and cost reduction, companies have been hesitant to fully embrace cloud solutions due to concerns about data privacy and security.
Many companies in the energy and utilities sector are looking to modernise their infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency, improve security and meet evolving customer demands. Legacy systems often lack the flexibility and scalability needed to support new technologies and regulatory requirements, making them more vulnerable to cyber threats and operational disruptions.
Modern infrastructure enables companies to better leverage data analytics, AI and cloud technologies, providing more tailored and efficient services to customers while ensuring compliance with stringent security and regulatory standards.
SCC helps companies invest in scalable cloud platforms to migrate and modernise their infrastructure, setting you up for a successful future in the cloud. Our team of experts will consult with you on the best way forward using our pathfinder engagements to ensure you’re on the right track to success.
The energy and utilities sector are undergoing a radical transformation as the sector evaluates what form of energy we use, why we use it and how to align with the 2050 net zero target. Having the right skills and strategies in place to achieve this goal will be key to success and the companies that rapidly embrace modern technologies and the reskilling of their staff will prosper more than their counterparts.
Utilising cloud technologies, data analytics and automation will enable energy and utilities companies to optimise operations, reduce emissions and foster innovation.
Automation in smart grid management and remote monitoring ensures efficient electricity distribution and reduces transmission losses. It also optimises industrial operations, contributing to lower energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Energy and utilities companies can leverage data and AI capabilities to identify, understand and support their most vulnerable customers, particularly during the cost-of-living and energy crisis. Data science and machine learning play crucial roles in identifying these vulnerabilities by creating a unified view of the customer base. This involves integrating multiple internal data sources through a scalable, cloud-based data pipeline, enabling the development of simple yet effective Vulnerability Identification Models that can be evaluated for success.
By mapping the geographical distribution of vulnerable customers in the UK, energy companies gain powerful insights to better understand and assist these individuals. This approach allows companies to provide targeted support and assistance, thereby improving the customer experience and positively impacting communities.
The use of data analytics and visualisation demonstrates the significant impact that data science and cloud technology can have on enhancing the lives of vulnerable customers, ultimately driving better outcomes and ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
SCC’s advanced cloud services and data analytics capabilities are the key to uncover the insights you need into your customer base. Our cloud and data experts will work with you to understand what your business needs and how we can help you unlock value from these solutions.

Outcomes we enable:
The customer's hybrid environment consisted of multiple locations for servers, including virtual machines, physical servers and Azure, with dispersed responsibilities and blurred boundaries. Additionally, there was a strategic intention to leverage more products within the Microsoft ecosystem to consolidate products, streamline operations and seamlessly integrate.
In response to these challenges, the customer engaged with SCC to design and implement an Azure Arc Proof of Concept. This aimed to provide a comprehensive, single-pane-of-glass view of the server estate via the Azure Arc portal, enabling transparency, visibility and monitoring of the IT estate’s security posture. Key components of the solution included:
Microsoft Defender for Cloud: This tool was deployed for endpoint protection, ensuring robust security across their hybrid environment.
Azure Arc Management: Facilitating enhanced visibility and ease of reporting on any issues within the server estate.
By managing their servers through Azure Arc, the customer could consolidate its diverse IT assets into a single control plane, improving both oversight and operational efficiency.
The implementation of Azure Arc by SCC resulted in a significantly simplified operating model for the organisation. The single-pane-of-glass approach provided through the Azure Arc portal offered greater visibility and centralised control over the entire server estate. By using Azure Arc management, the organisation achieved a unified control plane capable of aggregating alerting and monitoring, which simplified server management tasks considerably.
One of the major benefits was the ability to operate in a cloud-centric manner on a familiar estate, reducing the typical learning time associated with introducing new digital solutions. Furthermore, deploying Microsoft Defender for Cloud allowed the organisation to consolidate the knowledge requirements of its technical team within the Microsoft suite, enhancing operational efficiency and security.
Overall, the move to Azure Arc proved to be transformative, offering streamlined management, improved security posture and a scalable, integrated framework that aligned perfectly with the organisation’s strategic goals of consolidating and leveraging the Microsoft ecosystem.
