Planet Resource circularity

Our resource circularity strategy focuses on the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. We emphasise these principles to our employees, suppliers, and partners. In our own operations, we seek to extend the lifespan of products and minimise waste across the Group. We buy recyclable products and equipment wherever possible and prioritise working with organisations who share our commitment to sustainability.

We have been a zero-landfill business since 2019 and ISO 14001 accredited.

Our purpose is to help clients succeed through IT transformation and exceptional customer experiences enabling them to reduce their impact on the planet. We are also committed to achieving net zero by 2040.

Sustainability

SCC is committed to achieving net zero by 2040 by our board approved net zero policy and for this target to be validated by SBTi. SCC is also in committed to halving S1+2 emissions by 2030 from FY20 base year, already reduced by 30%.

1.6) Reducing Our Emissions

Carbon Reduction Plan

We publish our Carbon Reduction plan annually in accordance with PPN06/21 and will continue to do so throughout the life of the contract. We have purchased carbon offsets since 2008 and have matched emissions from our operations to be Carbon Neutral since 2018 to mitigate our emissions while we work towards net zero. While we recognise the importance of energy efficiency and the real world emissions impact of our electricity use, our electricity contracts are 100% renewable and from natural sources – wind, solar and hydro.

We have implemented the following measures to date:

Refurbishment of headquarter offices including heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation, LED lighting and controls, improved insulation and removal of all gas fired boilers.
Improving the efficiency of datacentre CRAC units, chillers and UPS systems.
Installation of 730kW solar PV system serving a datacentre.

We recognise that most (>95%) of our value chain emissions come from the products and services that we provide to our customers, we work collaboratively with our suppliers to support environmental protection and improvement both directly and through value chain programs such as HP's Amplify Impact partner program, which we have the highest 5 star rating and Lenovo’s 360 Circle, in which we are Lead members. These programs are used for engaging on sustainability with a view to sharing expertise, internal training materials, quantifying sustainability in our commercial relationship and moving forward as a tech sector.

SCC are proud to be an active member of the Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA), which is a collaborative working group from existing or prospective digital and data suppliers to the UK Government working in partnership with members that includes businesses of all sizes to drive the meeting of sustainability commitments.

We are a zero waste to landfill business accredited to ISO 14001. We have operated a WEEE refurbishment and recycling facility in Birmingham for over 15 years, ensuring that used devices are safely and securely erased and where possible given a second life or recycled to reduce their environmental impact. In FY24, we securely processed 200,000 devices with just under half of these being refurbished.

We offer internal training to staff around environmental awareness and duty of care in addition to on demand courses available on our online learning platform STAR. We provide external training to recognised qualifications such as BATRRT, WAMITAB & EPOC where appropriate to the role.

Our most recent staff survey demonstrated the engagement of our staff on environmental issues, with ‘our focus on sustainability and climate action’ being one of the top three issues rated important or very important to them.

Recycling

SCC Recyclea

We have been refurbishing and recycling IT equipment for several years and the investment in our new state of the art investment recycling facility, Recylea has enabled us to further extend this offering to our customers. Recyclea consists of three core services: recycling, refurbishment and remarketing, all with a focus of securely maximising the output from customer IT equipment. Alongside these are a number of associated services which help maximise the security and sustainability of IT recycling, as well as contributing to the circular economy. All our services are extensively accredited, according to stringent Government, National Cyber Security Centre, and Ministry of Defence criteria.

The miscellaneous (Misc) category refers to items such as, but not limited to disk drives, hard drives, mobile phones, modems, cache memory, hubs and switches, input accessories, storage accessories, phones and bridges and routers.

SCC install 737kWp PV to supply Birmingham data centre with Conrad Energy

SCC, the leading international IT solutions provider, today announced a partnership with Conrad Energy, a global provider of renewable energy solutions, to install solar panels at its flagship CV1 data centre facility in Birmingham. The move is part of SCC’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.

The 737kWp roof-mounted solar-PV system will provide a significant amount of renewable energy to the data centre, reducing the amount of electricity that needs to be sourced from traditional energy sources. The panels are installed on the roof of the CV1 facility, and will create 130 tonnes of carbon savings in the first year.

Waste

The below table illustrates the total waste produced by the business. SCC targets a reduction on 50% buy 2030 in line with our CO2 targets. We continue to reduce waste through a number of activities such as reusable packaging in collaboration with our logistics suppliers and increase recycling rates with our waste partners.
